The pandemic has led many people to re-evaluate their well-being and health, and this includes where and how they travel. Among the many trends that have kicked off over the past year is how hotels can cater to this increasing focus on wellness. And that goes beyond the traditional spa and health amenities.
Many hotels already had on-staff nutritionists and wellness consultants, but there is a growing trend to incorporate naturopathic medicine into a hotel’s well-being offering. Naturopaths use natural remedies as part of the healing process often providing dietary recommendations and using methods that treat the root cause of health issues rather than just its symptoms. This can be especially beneficial for chronic pain, insomnia, digestive issues and overall stress reduction.

Anantara Veli Maldives Resort already had substantial spa facilities of its own, but recently added a resident naturopath to consult with guests who are eager to maintain a healthy lifestyle long after the Covid-19 pandemic.
While it may seem counterintuitive to learn how to adjust your diet and sleep patterns when on vacation in paradise, the resort’s naturopath Kelly Manning says that it is actually the perfect opportunty. Manning splits her time between Anantara Veli Maldives Resort and Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas and says that the guests she meets want to pick up new knowledge when they travel that they can apply at home.

“More guests are looking to incorporate health and well-being into their day-to-day activities, and that includes while they are on vacation,” says Manning. “We have noticed increased interest from guests wanting to participate in our nutrition and lifestyle consultations.”
Rona Berg, editorial director of Organic Spa Media, agrees.
“Hotels, spas and resorts are reading the pulse of travelers and really drilling down into expanded wellness offerings,” says Berg. “They are adding new programs with naturopaths, counselors, life coaches and nutritionists geared toward helping guests with targeted mental, emotional and physical wellness issues. This includes things like weight gain, anxiety and drinking issues among others, brought on by Covid-19.”
